EU Ambassador considers Ukraine's accession realistic by 2030
Ukraine may become a full member of the European Union by the end of 2030. This timeframe for accession seems realistic, says EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova.
This is how the diplomat answered the question of whether her last year's forecast for the 2030 deadline had changed.
"Actually, no. It has not changed. I remember our conversation. It was before the European Council's decision to negotiate with Ukraine. I am sure that this is a realistic timeframe," the EU Ambassador to Ukraine said.
At the same time, she expressed the opinion that "certainly the next period will be interesting."
Ukraine's accession to the EU
In December last year, the leaders of the EU member states at a summit in Brussels approved the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
In fact, negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU have not yet begun, as Ukrainian legislation is being screened for compliance with EU requirements and a negotiating framework is being developed.
The European Commission has already approved the negotiation framework for Ukraine's accession to the EU.
Earlier, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine that negotiations could start in the spring.
