Ukraine's EU accession: Negotiations on clusters may start in 2025
Ukraine is continuing its reforms on the path to EU membership. If Ukraine meets all requirements, negotiations on specific clusters could begin as early as next year, according to the European Union's website.
"The opening of accession negotiations with Ukraine has been an important recognition of Ukraine's determination to pursue reforms on the path of EU accession," the EU wrote.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that following the first intergovernmental conference in June 2024, the analytical screening is currently progressing smoothly.
"Subject to Ukraine meeting all the conditions, the Commission is looking forward to the opening of negotiations on clusters, starting with the fundamentals, as soon as possible in 2025," the EU's statement reads.
Earlier, it was reported that by the end of October, the European Commission plans to assess the progress of Ukraine and other countries on the path toward EU membership.
In addition, surveys have shown how support among Ukrainians for joining the EU and NATO has changed since the beginning of the war. Notably, nearly 90% of respondents support EU membership.
At the beginning of this month, Oleksandr Kornienko, the First Deputy Speaker of Ukraine’s Parliament, said that Ukraine may join NATO before gaining EU membership.
