Ukrainian Drone Line units are responsible for striking every fourth enemy target on the front line. The project enables the creation of fire control zones up to 15 km deep, stated Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

How the Drone Line works

According to the minister, the project, launched by the President in spring 2025, brought together five of the most effective unmanned systems units, including Magyar’s Birds, Achilles, and K-2. Their experience became the foundation for deploying a network of crews along the entire front line.

The project’s main goal is to create a so-called kill zone 10–15 km deep. Within this zone, drones accompany infantry, detect and destroy the enemy even before they reach Ukrainian positions, preventing advances without critical losses. According to Fedorov, technological superiority is becoming the decisive factor.

"The Drone Line marks a shift to a new model of warfare, where unmanned systems become the key tool of destruction," the minister emphasized.

Results and support

Today, the project includes more than 1,000 crews. In March alone, operators struck more than 10,500 Russian troops and hundreds of pieces of equipment.

International partners are actively contributing to the project’s funding. In particular, the Netherlands has allocated $880 million for the purchase of FPV drones, reconnaissance UAVs (ISR), and bomber drones.

The Drone Line continues to scale up and attract new specialists — operators, engineers, and analysts.

Technological edge and drone records

Ukrainian drone technologies continue to deliver record-breaking results on the battlefield. Earlier, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov reported that in March, interceptor drones destroyed more than 33,000 enemy UAVs — twice as many as in the previous month.

In addition, according to Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa, Ukraine’s Armed Forces currently maintain an advantage over Russia in the use of strike drones at a ratio of 1.3 to 1, significantly affecting the pace of enemy advances.

A world record was also set in April — a Ukrainian pilot, using a STING interceptor, shot down two Shahed drones for the first time in history at a distance of 500 kilometers from the launch point.
