The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine has revealed companies involved in the production of Russian attack helicopters. It is noted that more than a dozen enterprises have still not been sanctioned, according to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Telegram channel.

“The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine is publishing information about Russian enterprises that develop, manufacture, repair, and maintain Russian helicopters, including the Ka-52 Alligator reconnaissance-attack helicopters and Mi-8 transport helicopters,” the intelligence agency reported.

It is noted that fourteen of the disclosed enterprises have not been subject to restrictions from any country in the sanctions coalition during the four years of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Among them are:

  • JSC “VR-Service” — a service company that performs major overhauls and modernization of Mi and Ka helicopters;
  • LLC “VR Foundry Production” — manufactures magnesium castings for the holding’s enterprises;
  • Ulan-Ude Blade Plant — produces blades for Mi-series helicopters.

The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine added that restrictions on capabilities should also extend to the civilian helicopter industry, given the high compatibility between civilian and military versions of various helicopter types, particularly the Mi-8, which is the most widely used helicopter in the Armed Forces of Russia.

What is known about the Ka-52

The Ka-52 is a Russian combat helicopter designed for reconnaissance, target designation, and coordination of attack helicopter groups. The aircraft is capable of striking armored and unarmored vehicles, manpower, and aerial targets on the battlefield. The first test flight of the Ka-52 took place in 2008.

The Ka-52 is equipped with the Arbalet radar system. It also has an armored crew capsule, and the capsule can be ejected at altitudes from 0 to 4,100 meters. Either pilot can control the helicopter and operate its weapons systems.

On February 22, the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed two Russian helicopters using attack drones at an airfield in the Oryol region. As a result of the strike, the enemy lost a multipurpose Mi-8 helicopter and a Ka-52 attack helicopter.
