Russian leadership is spreading false claims about the situation in Kupiansk. Ukrainian troops continue clearing the town of remaining Russian forces, stated Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi.

According to the general, the situation in the Kupiansk direction requires heightened attention, as the pace of fighting is high and demands maximum coordination.

Syrskyi visited troop formations and military units in the Kharkiv region to assess the operational situation.

He said Ukrainian defenders continue both defensive and search-and-strike actions. They take place daily as part of comprehensive measures to stabilize the situation in Kupiansk.

The general noted that Ukrainian forces are continuing to identify Russian fighters inside the town, to eliminate them or take them prisoner.

"The scale of lies from the Russian leadership about the situation in Kupiansk is astonishing. The truth is that in the days after their statements, fewer than 40 Russian radio-communication users were detected in the town," he stressed.

Meanwhile, on the approaches to the town, Ukrainian troops are holding key lines and intensifying fire on the enemy to block their supply routes.

During his visit, Syrskyi gave commanders instructions to ensure their units' needs are met.

What Putin claimed

On November 20, Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed that up to "15 Ukrainian Armed Forces battalions" had been encircled in Kupiansk.

Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov stated that the town had allegedly been "liberated."

On November 27, Putin said that fighting was ongoing in Komsomolsk. Notably, no such settlement exists in the part of the Donetsk region controlled by Ukrainian forces.
