Between August and October this year, Ukrainian defenders carried out counteroffensive operations in Donbas. As a result, Russian losses amounted to more than 13,000 troops killed and wounded, according to Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi.

The general spoke via video link at a meeting of the European Military Committee chaired by General Sean Clancy. During his address, Syrskyi outlined the current situation on the frontline.

"The operational and strategic situation remains difficult. The enemy continues to strike Ukrainian settlements and energy infrastructure, and is intensifying offensive actions along the entire line of contact," he said.

According to the Commander-in-Chief, Russia has launched more than 112,000 Shahed-type kamikaze drones at Ukraine since the start of the war. Russia's main targets are civilian infrastructure and residential buildings. It has led to civilian casualties.

From late August to October 2025, the Defense Forces carried out counteroffensive actions in the Dobropillia direction.

"As a result, our units split the enemy's assault grouping and liberated more than 430 square kilometers north of Pokrovsk. Russian losses exceeded 13,000 killed and wounded," Syrskyi said.

He also expressed gratitude for the implementation of the PURL initiative, stressing its crucial importance for protecting Ukrainians and critical infrastructure, as well as supporting the Defense Forces on the frontline.

Pokrovsk remains the epicenter of fighting in the Donetsk region. Russian forces are attempting to encircle the town from several directions and are deploying reinforcements to the area.

Currently, more than 300 Russian troops are inside Pokrovsk. They used unfavorable weather conditions, including dense fog, to infiltrate the town.
