During the battles for Bakhmut, the Russian forces deployed their most combat-ready Wagner PMC units. Wagner forces used all types of weaponry, including artillery, armored vehicles, and aviation, states the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

However, according to Syrskyi, it was in Bakhmut that this structure suffered a crushing defeat both as an organization and as a combat force of Russia.

"We constantly track losses. Prigozhin claimed that Wagner lost 20,000 fighters killed in the battle for Bakhmut. Our calculations showed enemy losses of around 23,000 killed," Syrskyi said.

Given that Wagner’s total strength, according to their own statements, was about 50,000, and the ratio of wounded to killed was approximately 50-50, this suggests an almost complete loss of Wagner’s combat capability in Bakhmut.

Syrskyi noted that Bakhmut was where the enemy suffered its heaviest losses, while Ukrainian forces sustained the lowest.

"Our losses were the smallest, and the enemy’s losses were the largest precisely in Bakhmut. At that time, Defense Minister Reznikov cited figures showing a 1 to 7 ratio or even higher. The enemy suffered no such losses anywhere else," the commander-in-chief emphasized.
