Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius held a conversation, which focused in particular on supplying Ukraine with missiles for Patriot and IRIS-T air defense systems, according to Fedorov’s Telegram post.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov briefed his German counterpart on today’s massive strike by Russia. Germany plays a key role in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense — the delivered IRIS-T and Patriot systems, as well as Berlin’s participation in the PURL program, have helped repel Russian attacks.
"We discussed the further development of Ukraine’s Patriot program and the necessary projects to ensure the long-term supply of missiles for our Patriot systems. At the same time, we focused on developing the IRIS-T missile as one of Ukraine’s central weapons and on increasing its deliveries," Fedorov wrote.
According to him, Germany’s participation in an innovative project to develop drone-strike units was also discussed. Ukraine has already carried out successful operations on the frontlines and is ready to share its experience with German forces.
Another important area of cooperation between the countries is long-range artillery ammunition. Fedorov noted that Ukraine needs precisely such shells, given the "drone kill zone." It is crucial that Germany continues its contributions to the Czech initiative on ammunition.
Fedorov reminded that Germany is one of Ukraine’s key defense partners, contributing over 30% of all announced defense aid to Ukraine for 2026. The Ukrainian minister also thanked his counterpart for delivering two Patriot systems last fall.
Notably, just last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian defenders lacked missiles for some air defense systems. Nevertheless, Ukraine has now received a substantial package of such missiles.
New aid from Germany
A few days ago, it was announced that Germany is providing Ukraine with additional assistance worth €60 million for winter and energy support.
According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, the aid will be used to improve heating and energy supply, primarily in frontline regions.
