As of yesterday, January 15, electricity consumption in Ukraine stood at 18 GW, while system capacity was only slightly over 11 GW, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, according to Novyny.Live.

"Restoration is underway after every strike. On a daily basis, not only are power plants being restored, but also the technical capacity to increase imports is being built. As of yesterday, consumption was high, around 18 GW, while our capacity was about 11 GW. But something is being restored every day," the President of Ukraine said.

Zelenskyy also noted that he would not specify what exactly is being restored or where, solely for security reasons.

"I will not say specifically where restoration is taking place, because as soon as someone says something about it, or something appears on social media, those locations are hit again and again," he added.

Russian strikes on the energy sector

Russian forces have recently intensified strikes on energy facilities in various regions of Ukraine. Against the backdrop of regular attacks and a difficult situation in the energy sector, a decision was made on January 14 to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the most difficult situation persists in the capital region and the Odesa region. As of January 16, emergency power outages are in effect in Kyiv. Some consumers have also been without heat supply for almost a week.

At the same time, energy workers noted that as of the morning of January 16, all apartment buildings in Kyiv are connected to the electricity supply, with only localized accidents, and repair work is ongoing around the clock.

Against the backdrop of the energy crisis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Ukraine is convening a meeting of the energy Ramstein format.
