Ukraine is convening an energy Ramstein meeting amid a difficult electricity situation caused by Russian strikes and severe cold, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

"On the instruction of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, together with the Ministry of Energy, we are convening an energy Ramstein meeting, where we expect to receive additional contributions and concrete commitments from our allies," he wrote.

Sybiha also added that Ukraine remains in constant contact with the European Energy Community regarding the replenishment of the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and the procurement of equipment using the fund’s resources.

"We are engaging all international mechanisms: the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, the Energy Charter, and other international organizations," he said.

At the same time, Ukrainian diplomatic missions abroad have been instructed to maximize donor support to assist the most affected regions and communities, particularly by providing energy equipment.

State of emergency in the energy sector

On January 14, Ukrainian authorities decided to introduce a state of emergency in the energy sector after a series of massive Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Kyiv has been hit hardest by these attacks. As of January 15, emergency power outages are in effect in the capital. Some consumers have also been without heating for nearly a week.
