President Zelenskyy says Ukraine will receive strong US security guarantees after the war. If Russia continues its aggression, the United States would fight for Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian leader, if Russian President Vladimir Putin decides to continue the war, the United States would act as it is doing in the Middle East.
"US guarantees, our agreements—these are very strong guarantees. What do they mean? Ukraine will have guarantees from the United States after the war ends. And this is a very important point. What kind of guarantees are they? We have discussed the details and so on. But if Putin continues his aggression, America will step in and fight for us, doing the same thing it is doing now in the Middle East," Zelenskyy said.
He also added that he believes both sides need a ceasefire because no one knows how the war will end.
In addition, the president stressed that if Ukraine remains a strong state, Putin will not be able to do anything to the country or break it.
Security guarantees
In February, reports emerged that Ukraine, the United States and European partners had agreed on a plan of action in case Moscow violated a peace agreement.
According to them, the plan included both diplomatic and military measures. In particular, if Russia launched another large-scale offensive, a coordinated response from the allies could be in place within 72 hours.
There were also reports that the United States would not sign security guarantees for Ukraine until Kyiv and Moscow reached a peace agreement to end the war.
In April, President Zelenskyy insisted that Ukraine should have real security guarantees rather than rely solely on the assumption that Russia would refrain from launching another offensive out of respect for Trump.
