Cabinet reshuffle and Fedorov's departure
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy launched the Cabinet reshuffle on Sunday, when he announced that Yulia Svyrydenko would be nominated for a new position. On Tuesday, parliament voted to dismiss Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, triggering the resignation of her entire government.
It became clear almost immediately that Serhii Koretskyi would be the next prime minister. RBC-Ukraine first reported the development, citing sources, and Zelenskyy officially confirmed the nomination yesterday.
Until last night, the main question surrounding the reshuffle was whether Mykhailo Fedorov would remain defense minister. It was ultimately confirmed that he would not. During a meeting with lawmakers from the ruling Servant of the People party, Zelenskyy said he would not nominate Fedorov for the post. According to RBC-Ukraine sources, one of the reasons was Fedorov's conflict with Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Meanwhile, a protest began this morning outside Kyiv's Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater over Fedorov's dismissal. Demonstrators are calling on Zelenskyy to keep Fedorov as defense minister.
