Ukraine is ready to hold a new round of negotiations with Russia in Azerbaijan, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a joint press statement with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

"We (Aliyev and I — ed.) discussed peace efforts for Ukraine. It is important that Russia finds the strength to end this war," Zelenskyy said.

He noted that Ukraine highly values the role of partners in mediating the negotiation process.

"I shared with the President of Azerbaijan that we are ready for trilateral talks. We have held such talks in Turkey and Switzerland. We are ready for such talks in Azerbaijan if Russia is ready for diplomacy," the president added.

Talks between Ukraine and Russia

As a reminder, this year Ukraine has already held several rounds of negotiations with Russia and the United States.

The sides have not been able to reach an agreement on a ceasefire, as Russia is demanding the surrender of unoccupied parts of Donbas, which Kyiv rejects.

Negotiations are currently on pause due to the war in the Middle East.

Recently, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin if the presidents of the United States and Turkey also take part in the talks.

It should be noted that in early April, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that his country is ready to host the next round of peace talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.
