President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on sanctions policy. Preparations are underway for new sanctions against Russia and for coordinating these measures with partners, according to the President’s Telegram channel.

As Zelenskyy reported, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (RNBO) Rustem Umerov and Sanctions Policy Commissioner Vladyslav Vlasyuk briefed on new sanctions measures and the coordination of sanctions with partners.

The President noted that just in September, Ukraine implemented five sanctions decisions — targeting individuals who support Russia’s military-industrial complex, its shadow fleet, and energy sector; propagandists; pro-Russian figures from Moldova; individuals serving Russian forces in temporarily occupied Crimea; and also aligning British sanctions with Ukrainian jurisdiction.

In total, 166 individuals and 127 legal entities fell under the sanctions.

Zelenskyy also reminded that this month there were important sanctions steps taken by the US, the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

"Each of these packages takes into account our proposals and the sanctions already imposed. It is important that we have this level of coordination. We expect the adoption of the European Union’s 19th sanctions package as soon as possible. We are also working with the US on further sanctions pressure. I thank everyone who is helping,” the President said.

The head of state instructed to prepare the continuation of sanctions whose terms are expiring and to accelerate the coordination of these measures with partners.

"It is important that the pressure is truly effective. We count on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other state institutions to act promptly in supporting this work," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Ukraine’s sanctions against Russia

On September 20, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees introducing three new sanctions packages against Russia and Russian collaborators who are supporting the war in Ukraine, as well as destabilizing Moldova.

On September 10, Ukraine imposed new personal sanctions on individuals and companies that support Russia’s military-industrial complex, shadow fleet, and energy sector.

Recently, Ukraine fully aligned its sanctions with those introduced earlier this year by Canada. They targeted 139 individuals and legal entities working to support Russia’s war. Notably, some of those targeted are relatives of Kremlin head Vladimir Putin.

Zelenskyy also signed two decrees introducing sanctions against foreign sponsors of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Shortly before that, Zelenskyy signed decrees imposing new personal and sectoral sanctions on 35 individuals and legal entities connected to the state corporation Rosatom and Russian energy companies.
