Zelenskyy imposes sanctions on supporters fueling Russia's war in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed two decrees imposing sanctions on foreign supporters of Russia's war in Ukraine.
The first decree aligns Ukrainian sanctions with Canadian measures targeting individuals and companies backing Russia's war effort.
"Together with our partners, we are also preparing decisions on synchronizing Ukrainian sanctions within partner jurisdictions. Everyone who helps Russia continue the killings and build its war machine for further aggression must feel real global pressure," Zelenskyy said.
The decree covers citizens of Russia, Croatia, Austria, the US, Ukraine, Belarus, and Iran.
It also targets companies from Russia, Switzerland, the UAE, Singapore, Mali, Sudan, Latvia, Germany, China, Belarus, Cyprus, and the Central African Republic.
The second decree imposes sanctions on 28 citizens from various countries who help Russians maintain occupation regimes and effectively sponsor Russia.
"For each of these names, we are also working with law enforcement agencies of partner countries. All accomplices of the Russian forces will, one way or another, be held accountable for their actions against Ukraine and Ukrainians," Zelenskyy added.
The list includes four Iranian citizens, while the rest are from Russia and Ukraine. Among those holding Ukrainian passports are:
- War correspondents Elena Bobkova, Renat Shavlo, Aleksey Gavrish, and Dmitriy Makeev;
- Former adviser to the leader of the Luhansk People's Republic, Yulia Velichko;
- "Ombudsman" in the occupied Kherson region, Sergey Georgiev;
- Crimean entrepreneurs Vladimir Vylegzhanin and Vladimir Kotelyak;
- Casino owners Pin-Up Igor and Marina Iliny.
The portal War Sanctions reported that Aleksey Harmash is directly involved in Russia's information war against Ukraine. In June 2024, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine announced suspicions against him in absentia for collaboration.
Since Russia's full-scale invasion, Harmash has actively worked with the propaganda outlet News Front. His reports and posts systematically discredit Ukraine's Armed Forces. He also spreads disinformation about combat operations and promotes Kremlin narratives.
"In addition, Gavrish's activities include material and technical support for occupation forces. His personal Telegram channel serves as a platform for fundraising to support the Russian army. Specifically, he has organized fundraising to purchase vehicles for Russian units operating in the Pokrovsk direction," the portal said.
Other sanctions
About a week ago, President Zelenskyy introduced sanctions against companies and organizations directly involved in developing Russian drone technology using artificial intelligence.
