Ukraine prepares decision on e-notifications for foreigners to enter the country
Ukraine is planning to introduce a system of electronic notification for foreigners who intend to enter the country and have visa-free entry, according to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NDSC).
On Tuesday, August 13, there was a meeting under the chairmanship of the secretary of the NDSC Oleksandr Lytvynenko on the decisions aimed at strengthening control over the entry and exit of foreigners and stateless persons, their compliance with the rules of stay in Ukraine.
“To strengthen border and migration control, as well as the counterintelligence regime during martial law, it was proposed to determine and approve a list of countries that have a visa-free entry regime with Ukraine, whose citizens will be required to submit an electronic notification of their intention to enter Ukraine in accordance with the established procedure,” the NSDC said.
The statement adds that the need to adapt Ukrainian legislation to EU legislation by developing and submitting to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on a system of e-notification for foreigners is becoming increasingly important.
The meeting also discussed setting up a preventive mechanism for banning the entry of foreigners whose stay in Ukraine is undesirable for national security reasons.
Visa-free regime in Ukraine
In 2017, Ukraine and the European Union signed an agreement on visa-free travel.
In October last year, the EU said that Ukraine continued to meet the conditions of visa liberalization, but further efforts were needed.
In January, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy extended the visa-free regime for citizens of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to enter Ukraine and transit through the country. It will be in effect until January 30, 2025.
