Ukraine-Poland border situation update: Queues everywhere
Three checkpoints on the border between Ukraine and Poland remain blocked, while one is open. Hundreds of trucks are lined up in front of all checkpoints, says Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
"The blocking continues. There are three directions: Yahodyn, Rava-Ruska, and Krakivets checkpoints. Shehyni was unblocked the other day and the intensity remains there," says Demchenko.
A queue is opposite the Shehyni checkpoint as drivers and carriers look for routes to cross the border.
"As of this morning, 1,000 trucks were in front of Shehyni. And about 800 vehicles are opposite the three directions that are still blocked," the spokesperson adds.
Blockade of Ukrainian border
On November 6, 2023, Polish carriers began strikes on the border with Ukraine. During the protest, the first three and then another checkpoint were blocked.
The Polish protesters demanded the return of the pass system for Ukrainian carriers.
At the end of December, Ukrainian and Polish officials agreed on an action plan to unblock the border crossing points. Poland planned to unblock the border by the end of 2023.
In addition, on December 4, a checkpoint for empty trucks leaving Ukraine was launched at the border.
Recently, on January 6, Polish farmers stopped blocking the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint, and truck traffic was restored.
