Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha outlines the latest developments on the front lines and regarding Ukraine’s EU accession during his address at the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on May 11.
Among the topics on the agenda are the opening of negotiation clusters and the acceleration of Ukraine’s accession process. According to the Minister, a new dynamic is already evident in this area.
"I came here with a new feeling of momentum. I will attend very important meetings at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, FAC, and also a meeting of our international coalition for the return of Ukrainian children," the Minister says.
Separately, Sybiha touches on the topic of peace and Europe’s potential new role.
"We have mainstream peace talks under the leadership of the USA, and we need this track, and we need US leadership. But Europe could also play its role, a new role," he states.
The day before, Sybiha traveled to Brussels to participate in an EU Council meeting, talks with NATO leadership, and a meeting of the international coalition for the return of Ukrainian children.
The EU is also preparing to define its own position on possible negotiations with Russia. To this end, an informal summit of EU Foreign Ministers in the Gymnich format is scheduled for late May.
