Ukraine needs strong security guarantees to prevent another Russian invasion

Ukraine must have reliable security guarantees in any ceasefire deal to prevent another invasion by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said, according to Sky News.
"We know very well that President Putin has no red lines and that after Ukraine, it can certainly be an attack against NATO territory," Joly stated.
She emphasized that Kyiv must be at the negotiating table.
The Minister noted that it is important for Canada, the United States, and Europe to provide Ukraine with security guarantees.
"We wouldn't want to be in a situation where essentially there's a ceasefire, there's a non-durable peace, and Russian forces leave Ukrainian territory, reorganise themselves, and re-invade Ukraine," she said.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz previously stated that President Donald Trump wants to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, but security guarantees will be Europe's responsibility.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that US security guarantees are the only effective way to deter Russia from launching another attack on Ukraine.
Following the urgent summit in Paris, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed Europe's readiness to take the lead in providing security guarantees for Ukraine.
In addition, Europe is now actively discussing the issue of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. According to The Washington Post, European countries could deploy up to 30,000 troops for this mission.
