Ukraine may respond to Nawrocki initiative on Bandera symbol

The initiative of Polish President Karol Nawrocki to ban the Bandera symbol may cause negative sentiments among Ukrainians. Kyiv does not rule out a reaction to such actions, a diplomatic source told RBC-Ukraine.
According to the publication's interlocutor, Ukraine is analyzing the legal dimension of the decisions adopted by the new Polish president and their impact on Ukrainians in Poland.
The diplomatic source clarified that Ukraine is grateful for all previous decisions of the Polish authorities in favor of Ukrainians. In Kyiv, they expect that the Polish authorities will ensure the protection of the rights of Ukrainian citizens no worse than in other EU countries.
"At the same time, any politicized decisions about allegedly equating Ukrainian symbols with Nazi and communist ones may provoke an increase in negative sentiments in Ukrainian society and require a response from the Ukrainian side," the interlocutor added.
Nawrocki's decision
Earlier, Polish President Karol Nawrocki announced a legislative initiative under which the Bandera symbol in Poland would be equated with the symbols of the Nazis and Soviet communists.
The head of the Polish state assured that such a decision corresponds to Poland's good relations with Ukraine.
At the same time, it is unclear which specific Bandera symbol is meant.
