Ukraine is ready to evacuate civilians in Kursk region if Russia requests it – Media

Ukraine is ready to open a humanitarian corridor in the Kursk region, Russian Federation, provided that Moscow requests it, Le Monde reports.
Kyiv is ready to open a humanitarian corridor to evacuate hundreds of Russian civilians residing in areas of the Kursk region currently controlled by the Defense Forces, provided that Moscow submits an official request.
According to the media outlet, more than 1,500 civilians are currently living in areas of the Kursk region under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
“Families (of Russians – ed.) are increasingly angry with the Russian authorities over losing contact with their loved ones, who have been left without communication on the other side of the front line,” Le Monde adds.
Operation in the Kursk region
Back in the summer of 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) launched an offensive in the Kursk region. At that time, the Defense Forces took control of part of the region. Over the following six months, the Russian troops managed to regain control over some areas, but Ukrainian forces continue to hold dozens of settlements, including Sudzha.
According to the General Staff of the AFU, Russia has lost 40,000 soldiers during the operation in the Kursk region.
Meanwhile, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that the Defense Forces recently advanced up to 5 km in the region.
