On the night of Wednesday, March 25, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a vessel of the Russian military in the Leningrad region, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“During a joint operation of Ukraine’s Defense Forces in the Leningrad region on the night of March 25, a vessel of Russian occupiers was hit at the Vyborg shipyard,” the statement said.
According to preliminary information, the target was the Project 23550 patrol icebreaker Purga. It was intended for operations within the Russian FSB border service.
Such vessels are capable of performing both icebreaker and military ship functions.
“Ukraine’s Defense Forces will continue to strike important enemy targets both in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and on the territory of the Russian Federation until the full cessation of armed aggression against Ukraine,” the General Staff emphasized.
During the nighttime attack, residents reported a fire on the enterprise’s territory — a cargo vessel caught fire. A building was also burning in Vyborg near an FSB base.
Drone attacks on Russia
On the night of March 25, Russia’s Leningrad region was massively attacked by drones. A fire broke out at the port of Ust-Luga. It is strategically important for financing Russia’s war machine.
After recent drone attacks, Russia temporarily halted oil exports through the ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga. The strikes caused fires and disruptions to infrastructure operations.
Also, on March 23, the Defense Forces struck strategic Russian energy facilities - the Transneft–Port Primorsk oil terminal and the Bashneft–Ufaneftekhim oil refinery.
