On the night of April 17, Russia attacked Ukraine with an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 172 strike drones. Air defense forces managed to shoot down most of the enemy unmanned aerial vehicles, reports the Ukrainian Air Force.

From 6 PM on April 16 to the morning of April 17, Russian forces launched one Iskander-M ballistic missile from temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as 172 strike drones of the Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas types, and other UAVs from directions including Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), and Hvardiiske (temporarily occupied Crimea).

About 120 of the drones launched by the enemy were Shaheds.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare, and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data as of 8 AM, air defense shot down or suppressed 147 enemy UAVs of the Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types in the north, south, and east of the country.

Hits were recorded from one ballistic missile and 20 strike drones across 8 locations, as well as debris from downed drones at 4 locations.

"The attack is ongoing, several enemy UAVs are still in the airspace. Follow safety rules!" the Air Force warned.

Strikes on Ukraine

This night, Russian forces once again targeted critical infrastructure in the Chernihiv region. The strike hit the facilities of the Chernihiv regional energy company.

As a result of the attack, an energy facility was damaged, leaving more than 6,000 consumers in the city and region without electricity. Impacts on several infrastructure sites were also reported.

In addition, on the evening of April 16, Russian forces struck Zaporizhzhia with a guided aerial bomb. The attack destroyed a house of worship, leaving one person dead and several injured.

Over the previous day, Russia attacked Ukraine with hundreds of aerial targets — drones and missiles. There were impacts in 26 locations, with casualties reported in several cities; the most severe destruction occurred in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa. RBC-Ukraine compiled the consequences of the massive combined Russian attack in a report.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that over the course of a day, the aggressor state used 703 aerial weapons — 44 missiles and 659 drones. The attack came in two waves, with air defense forces destroying or neutralizing 667 of the aerial targets.

It is also noted that a distinctive feature of this attack was the use of a large number of ballistic missiles — 19 Iskander-M/S-400 missiles were launched at four regions
