As of today, there are no shellings of the city of Sumy with barrel artillery by the Russian army, Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, reports.

"We spoke with representatives of the Defense Forces who are operating in the Sumy direction. They note that there are no shellings of the city of Sumy with barrel artillery," the statement says.

Kovalenko noted that with certain types of weapons, in particular some types of MLRS, Russia can reach Sumy precisely from the territory of the Kursk region. However, at the moment, Russia has not moved barrel artillery up to the border area of the Sumy region.

"As of today, it is not about the enemy having moved barrel artillery into the border area of Sumy region, where Russian assault groups have entered and where active fighting is ongoing with our soldiers," the Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation summarized.

What precedes this

Most likely Kovalenko's post is a response to the publication of one of the Ukrainian media outlets, which reported that Russian forces allegedly struck with barrel artillery near Sumy.

In particular, the publication claimed that approximately on June 22-23, the Russian army reached the village of Pishchane with artillery, which is located right beyond Sumy. The outlet wrote that the distance from the impact point to the edge of Sumy was less than a kilometer.

The media also specified that supposedly a 152-mm active-reactive projectile was launched from a 2A36 or 2S5 self-propelled artillery system. The maximum range of such a projectile is 33-40 kilometers, which allegedly indicates that the enemy self-propelled gun fired from the territory of Russia.

Shellings of Sumy

Russians regularly shell the city of Sumy, using drones and missiles of various types. In addition, the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine often record launches of guided aerial bombs at the Sumy region.

For example, on the morning of June 3, the enemy struck the center of the city of Sumy, where there was a crowd of civilians. As a result of the attack, 28 people were injured, and later the news emerged that a man died in the hospital due to severe wounds.
