Over the past two days, the Russian army has attempted to advance in various sectors of the front. However, in most cases, counterattacks by Ukraine's Defense Forces disrupted the enemy's plans, according to a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
On August 26 and 27, Russian forces continued offensive operations in the north of the Kharkiv region but failed to advance. They were hindered by counterattacks by Ukrainian troops. According to a Russian milblogger, on August 27, Ukraine's Defense Forces counterattacked near Izbytske and Starytsia.
Over the previous two days, Russian forces also attempted to advance in the Kupiansk direction but failed due to resistance from Ukrainian troops. In particular, Ukrainian counterattacks near Dvorichna were reported.
At the same time, according to a source affiliated with Russia's Western Group of Forces, Ukrainian troops advanced southeast of Borova on August 27.
It was also reported that during the counterattack, they captured several strongpoints and expanded control over the gray zone near Ridkodub, Katerynivka, and Nove. ISW had previously recorded geolocated evidence of Ukrainian advances in this area and adjusted its assessment of the front line accordingly.
In the Sloviansk direction, Russian forces continued their offensive on August 26–27 but made no confirmed advances. Ukrainian troops, in turn, counterattacked near Lyman and reportedly expanded their control in the gray zone.
Russian offensive operations in the Dobropillia tactical area and the Pokrovsk direction also ended without success. Russian forces failed to advance.
Near Novopavlivka, as well as northeast and south of Oleksandrivka, Russian forces conducted limited attacks but made no confirmed territorial gains.
Ukraine's Defense Forces had advanced in three regions at once.
Meanwhile, Russia announced the previous day that it had attacked Ukraine with new Geran drones.
