Ukraine could become NATO member after war ends - US State Department
The US has stated that Ukraine can only join NATO after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war, but it is a process that is moving forward, according to a statement by the US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
Miller replied that there has been no change regarding the approval of the schedule. It still depends on the end of the war.
"We have made clear for some time that ultimately, that's a process that moves forward at the end of this conflict," he added.
On April 3, Stoltenberg stated that all NATO members agree that Ukraine will become a member of NATO and that they need to continue to bring Ukraine closer to NATO membership.
According to the New York Times, Ukraine wants to receive an official invitation to join NATO. However, this will not happen at the ceremonies planned in Washington during the Alliance summit in July, as the US and Germany, in particular, are against starting negotiations.
Instead, Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, stated that Ukraine's invitation to NATO is not tied to the summit in Washington.
