Ukraine confirms strike on key Russian missile plant in Yelets

On the night of July 3, drones targeted the Energia plant in the city of Yelets, Lipetsk region, Russia. The facility manufactures batteries used for missile guidance and control, as well as for the Iskander missile system, says Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).
“The Energia plant in Yelets, Lipetsk region, was attacked,” he stated.
According to the CCD, the plant produces batteries for:
- missile guidance and control units,
- Iskander missile system,
- cruise missiles.
“Energia is one of the most critical targets for Russia,” Kovalenko emphasized.
Why is the plant's critical?
The Energia plant in the Lipetsk region is one of the key enterprises in Russia's defense industry, specializing in the production of chemical power sources.
It plays a crucial role as the only remaining manufacturer of batteries for guidance and control modules used in aerial bombs.
In addition, the facility produces batteries for the Iskander-M missile system, sea-launched cruise missiles, and universal batteries used in the power supply systems of specialized military equipment.
Attack on Energia plant
An air raid alert and a yellow level of air danger were declared overnight in Lipetsk and the surrounding region due to the threat of UAV attacks. The alert level was later raised to red. Soon after, loud explosions were heard across the city and region.
Russian sources reported that one of the targets of the night attack was the Energia plant in Yelets, Lipetsk region - a facility of strategic importance to the Russian military-industrial complex.
Shortly afterward, more and more footage of the aftermath of the attack on the Energia plant in Yelets began to circulate online.
This is not the first time the plant has been targeted: the previous strike occurred in May 2025.
