The Russian Federation struck central Sumy in Ukraine with guided aerial bombs, killing civilians, including a child, and injuring dozens more. Ukraine is urging its international partners to respond decisively to another act of Russian terror, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

Minister Sybiha reported that dozens of civilians were affected by another Russian attack.

"At least four civilians were killed, including a child. Thirty-three more people were injured, among them seven children," he said.

Sybiha stressed that Moscow no longer even pretends to distinguish between military targets and residential areas. He said Russian forces are deliberately bombing apartment buildings at night, believing they will face no consequences.

Call for stronger international response

The foreign minister said the attack is further proof that Russia has no intention of pursuing peace, despite ongoing international diplomatic efforts.

"Those who still believe that Russia can be persuaded to stop by words should look at Sumy today. A regime that bombs children understands only one language—strength," Sybiha said.

He added that Ukraine urgently needs additional air defense systems and interceptor capabilities.

He also called on the international community to respond by tightening sanctions, further isolating Russia, and increasing pressure on Moscow so that terror can no longer serve as a tool of Russian policy.

Russian strike on Sumy

On the evening of July 3, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy. They used numerous drones and guided aerial bombs, striking residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure in the city center.

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration head Oleh Hryhorov, the strikes caused significant destruction, and children were among those injured.

Following this recent attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to international partners, saying Western leaders have all the necessary means to stop Russia.
