Ukraine is preparing to appeal to the European Union to impose sanctions on Bangladeshi companies that import grain from the Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories, Reuters reports.

According to the news agency, the Ukrainian embassy in New Delhi sent at least 4 letters to the Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry, indicating the ships and their registration numbers that were transporting over 150,000 tons of grain from the Russian port of Kavkaz. Kyiv claims that Russian companies are mixing wheat from the occupied territories with Russian grain to conceal its origin.

"It's a crime. We will share our investigation with our European Union colleagues, and we will kindly ask them to take the appropriate measures," the agency quotes Ukraine's Ambassador to India, Oleksandr Polishchuk.

Ukrainian diplomats have warned Dhaka (the capital of Bangladesh) of possible serious consequences, including sanctions not only against importing companies but also against officials who knowingly facilitate the trade in stolen grain.

The European Union has not yet imposed any restrictive measures on the vessels in question, but as EU representative Anitta Hipper noted, any proven involvement in the transportation of stolen Ukrainian grain could be grounds for sanctions.

Ukraine has already detained foreign vessels suspected of transporting such grain and believes that Russian supplies undermine the food security and financial stability of the state in times of war.

Russia is stealing Ukrainian grain

A ship that was illegally exporting wheat from occupied Crimea under a false flag was detained in the Black Sea. The detention operation was carried out by the Sea Guard of the State Border Guard Service and the Security Service of Ukraine.

Russia is exporting grain from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to Iran. In particular, Russians have set up a new logistics route - agricultural products are transported by train from the Luhansk region to the Caspian Sea and then to Iran.

At the beginning of the year, Ukraine warned of tough measures against countries that buy stolen grain from Russia.
