On Saturday, June 14, Ukraine recovered bodies of another 1,200 deceased citizens, including military personnel, from Russia, informs the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

"Today, as part of the agreements reached in Istanbul, another stage of repatriation took place. Ukraine received another 1,200 bodies, which, according to the Russian side, belong to Ukrainian citizens, including servicemen," the statement reads.

Law enforcement agencies and expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will conduct examinations to identify the deceased.

The repatriation was made possible through the joint efforts of the Coordination Headquarters, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ombudsman's Office, the Office of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service (DSNS), and other agencies from Ukraine's Security and Defense Sector.

The Coordination Headquarters also expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for the assistance.

Return of the deceased

During the second round of negotiations in Istanbul on June 2, Ukraine and Russia agreed to carry out a body exchange on a "6,000 for 6,000" basis.

The first stage of that exchange took place on June 11. At that time, Ukraine received the bodies of 1,212 soldiers - defenders who died in battles in eastern and southern Ukraine, as well as in Russia's Kursk region.

On June 13, Ukraine also received the bodies of 1,200 Ukrainians, including military personnel.
