Ukrainian energy workers have begun restoring thermal power plants operated by Centrenegro that were shut down due to massive Russian strikes, said Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk during a briefing with journalists.
She clarified that two thermal power plants, Zmiivska and Trypilska, are managed by Ukraine's state energy company Centrenergo.
"There were indeed damages. Colleagues have already started restoration and repair work. We won't disclose the successes we plan, but the recovery work is ongoing," the minister said.
Hrynchuk added that during the war, energy facilities often have to halt operations. This is sometimes done manually to prevent further damage. Only after clearing debris can engineers assess the condition of the equipment, determine if restoration is possible, and identify which components need replacement.
"Unfortunately, Centrenegro thermal power plants have had to stop operations several times since the beginning of the war. Then repair work was carried out, and then they stopped operations again," the minister noted.
Massive attack on November 8
On the night of November 8, Russian forces launched a massive strike on Ukraine, using attack drones, Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, and Kalibr cruise missiles.
Russia targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
After the attack, Centrenegro reported that all its thermal power plants had ceased operations, with generation completely halted.
The company also noted that this was the largest strike on its TPPs since the beginning of the war with Russia.
