Ukraine and Sweden may sign a bilateral agreement to support the implementation of joint projects in the defense industry, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

As noted by Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for European Integration Serhii Boiev during a meeting with the Head of Technical Systems Testing and Evaluation at the Swedish government procurement agency FMV Johan Axelsson, air defense and ammunition remain priorities for Ukraine today.

The parties also discussed the development of a bilateral agreement to support the implementation of joint projects in the defense industry and substantive proposals for their creation.

Axelsson, in turn, said that the Swedish government may soon support the allocation of a new military assistance package to Ukraine, which will be the largest since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The support is expected to include investments in Ukrainian defense production, in particular, to increase long-range capabilities.

“In addition, the Ukrainian and Swedish sides agreed on the details of the implementation of contracts for the production of armored vehicles, in particular Swedish CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles. It is planned to establish a partnership for the maintenance and repair of these armored vehicles in Ukraine,” Ukraine's Defense Ministry writes.

In particular, they discussed ensuring stable communication on the battlefield. Sweden has satellite communication tools that have already proven to be effective.

Sweden's support for Ukraine

Sweden has been actively supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022. Its assistance includes financial, humanitarian, and military support. Stockholm provides significant amounts of funds through international organizations, supports IDPs, and donates humanitarian aid, including medical equipment, food, and generators.

In early November, Sweden announced a new aid package for Ukraine, which included two ships with equipment to strengthen maritime security.
