Ukraine and Sweden discussed strengthening the aviation component of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including the modernization of existing aircraft and the potential supply of new platforms, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Deputy Defense Minister for Aviation Development Oleksandr Kozenko held a meeting with a Swedish delegation led by Thomas Lindén, Director for Ukraine Affairs at SAAB.

The talks focused on enhancing the aviation capabilities of Ukraine's Armed Forces.

During the meeting, Kozenko thanked the Swedish side for its unwavering support of Ukraine in its struggle for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The discussion focused on several key areas:

  • modernizing the existing fleet of Soviet-era aircraft using advanced avionics, including systems produced in Sweden

  • exploring opportunities for cooperation between the Ukrainian and Swedish defense industries in the context of this project

  • equipping Ukrainian aircraft with modern radar systems, defensive technologies, and electronic countermeasure systems

"Ukrainian-Swedish cooperation in this area will be mutually beneficial, as Ukraine will enhance the capabilities of its aircraft, while Sweden will gain insights from the combat experience gained through their deployment," Oleksandr Kozenko said.

The sides also addressed the potential transfer of SAAB-manufactured aircraft to Ukraine and their continued support.

Participants discussed not only the existing agreements but also the next steps in the event of a positive political decision regarding the delivery of new types of aviation platforms produced in Sweden.

"The parties agreed to continue active consultations and communications to follow up on the agreements reached during the meeting," the Ministry added.

The Swedish government presented the 19th aid package to Ukraine. It has become the largest since the beginning of the full-scale war.

In addition, we wrote that the Swedish government has authorized an additional $7.57 million for demining and drones for Ukraine.
