Ukraine and Hungary agree to open new border crossing point
Ukraine and Hungary have agreed to open the Velyka Palad-Nagyhodos checkpoint for passenger vehicles as well as to allow the movement of empty trucks weighing over 7.5 tons at the Luzhanka - Beregsurany checkpoint, states the press service of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.
As noted, the relevant amendments to the agreement between the governments of the countries on border traffic control were signed by the Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov, and the Ambassador of Hungary to Ukraine Heizer Antala.
"The signed amendments to the agreement with Hungary allow us to start planning design and infrastructure works to launch the new Velyka Palad-Nagyhodos checkpoint and ensure the movement of empty trucks at Luzhanka," Kubrakov said.
The parties are also considering the possibility of building a new cargo checkpoint Dyida-Berehdaroc to increase the capacity of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border.
In addition, according to the minister, Ukraine is working to start negotiations on joint customs and border control with Hungary to expedite border crossings.
It is noted that after signing the amendments to the agreement, the document must be ratified.
Ukraine is preparing to open a number of new border crossing points
Earlier this year, we reported that Ukraine plans to open a number of new border crossing points to reduce the load on the Ukrainian-Polish border. The new checkpoints are to appear on the border with Hungary, Moldova, Romania, and Poland.
In particular, on April 2, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution that will allow the opening of a new border crossing point between Ukraine and Romania.
