Ukraine and Belgium sign €150 mln recovery agreement
Kyiv and Brussels signed a cooperation agreement. According to the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Belgium will invest about 150 million euros over four years to rebuild Ukraine.
The local agency Belga explains, the agreement:
- Provides for investments in the restoration of Ukraine amounting to €150 million ($164 million) over four years;
- Allows the Belgian cooperation agency Enabel to participate in the reconstruction of the affected regions of the country. The main activities are planned in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions;
- Includes cooperation in the restoration of critical infrastructure and the provision of comfortable shelters in schools.
The first tranche of €20 million ($21.88 million) will be directed towards decentralized energy installations in Kyiv and its suburbs. Specifically, Brussels plans to support the restoration of generators and solar panels in medical facilities and schools.
Belgium’s support for Ukraine
Belgium has been assisting Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. Recently, the countries signed a security guarantee agreement. According to the document, Brussels will provide at least €977 million in military aid this year. The exact number of F-16s that Ukraine will receive from its ally by 2028 was also specified.
