Ukraine already liberated over half of land captured by Russians, U.S. top general says
Since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion, Ukraine has already liberated more than half of the Russian-occupied territories, as U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley says during a briefing after the Ramstein meeting.
"Ukraine continues to achieve success. As of today, Ukraine has already liberated 54% of the occupied lands," Milley said.
He also notes that Ukraine continues to liberate its territories.
Counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Ukrainian military forces launched a counteroffensive in early June. On the main front, in the southern direction, they have already liberated 260 square kilometers of territory.
The Chief of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov said that the first defensive line in the southern direction had been breached in some areas. This means that the operation to break the land corridor between Russia and Crimea could be completed before the onset of winter.
Milley earlier mentioned that Ukraine needed to drive out over 200,000 Russian occupiers to gain victory.
