Ukraine, for the first time in the world, opens access for partners to train AI models using real battlefield data, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov reports.

He said that the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution that launches a new format of cooperation between Ukraine, Ukrainian companies, and international partners.

"Ukraine opens an opportunity to train artificial intelligence models for unmanned systems based on real combat data. In modern war, we must defeat Russia in every technological cycle. Artificial intelligence is one of the key areas of this competition," his statement says.

Fedorov emphasized that the future of war belongs to autonomous systems. According to him, the task of Ukraine is to increase the level of autonomy of drones and other combat systems so they "detect targets faster, analyze situations and help make decisions."

The Minister spoke about the creation of an AI platform based on the Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies, which allows:

  • Safely train models without direct access to sensitive databases;
  • Work with large arrays of labeled photo and video materials;
  • Use data that is constantly updated.

"Ukraine today has a unique battlefield dataset that exists nowhere else in the world. It includes millions of annotated frames collected during tens of thousands of combat flights," Fedorov emphasized.

He added that these data are already used to train neural networks that automatically detect ground and air targets in the DELTA system.

Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported a demonstration of the newest version of the Ukrainian interceptor drone Octopus with artificial intelligence in Kyiv and explained why it is important.

In addition, the Defense Procurement Agency signed a record contract for the purchase of Mavic, Autel, and Matrice drones. Artificial intelligence solutions are also being prepared.
