UK to start supplying tens of thousands of drones to Ukraine in January
Next January, the UK will start supplying thousands of drones to Ukraine. The supply will take place as part of a coalition of drones, stated Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defense Luke Pollard in a speech to members of the House of Commons.
According to him, the British government will work with Ukraine to make progress on its irreversible path to NATO membership. The UK will also work with the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and with allies in other countries to accelerate the pace of support and impose additional costs on Russia.
"I can confirm there will be a notable gear-shift in January when we commence delivery of tens of thousands of drones through the Maritime and Drone Capability Coalitions that the UK is leading with our Norwegian and Latvian partners," Pollard said.
Drone Coalition
This year, Ukraine's allies created the Drone Coalition to supply drones to the Ukrainian military in the fight against Russian aggression. Almost 20 countries have joined the initiative.
Latvia and the United Kingdom led the coalition. Latvia provides training grounds and production facilities for testing drones, which helps to improve technology. The United Kingdom has announced a tender for the development and purchase of FPV drones, for which 265 applications have already been submitted.
The partner countries of the coalition have created a joint fund, which is used to purchase drones for Ukrainian defenders.
