The United Kingdom is providing a funding package of up to £242 million (about $309 million) for Ukraine's urgent humanitarian, energy, and stabilization needs, citing the UK Government.

The aid announcement will be made by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the G7 summit in Italy, scheduled for June 13-15.

His priority at the summit will be working with partners to agree on how to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.

"The UK and G7 leaders have been clear that Russia must pay for the damage it is causing Ukraine. We will explore all lawful avenues by which immobilised Russian assets can be used to support Ukraine," the statement said.

According to the UK, the value of assets under G7 jurisdictions amounts to $285 billion.

The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries will agree on a $50 billion loan for Ukraine during the summit from June 13-15, financed by the profits from frozen Russian assets.

The United States plans to announce a new package of sanctions against Russia.
