The UK has announced an additional £20 million in funding for the restoration and protection of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, according to the UK government’s website.

“It comes as the UK and Ukraine mark the first year of the landmark 100 year partnership between the two countries in Kyiv today,” the statement said.

The UK government noted that hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, including children, are currently left without heating and electricity as temperatures drop across the country.

The new support announced today will help meet urgent heating and electricity needs for millions of families, children, and elderly people, the partners said.

The funding will be used for repairs, restoration, protection, and energy generation to ensure electricity and heat supply to homes, hospitals, and schools during the harsh winter conditions.

In addition to energy support, London announced the expansion of the school partnership program between Ukraine and the United Kingdom. Over the next three years, another 300 schools will join the initiative, bringing the total to around 54,000 students from both countries.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the 100-year partnership with Ukraine is a symbol of shared values and long-term support.

London also stressed that bilateral cooperation extends beyond the war and encompasses security, education, innovation, trade, and cultural exchanges, aimed at building a shared future for both countries.

Aid from Italy

Italy has provided a support package to Ukraine in response to the energy emergency, beginning deliveries of high-capacity industrial boilers.

The shipment is intended for critically important facilities that have been most affected by the crisis, ensuring rapid assistance to local communities. The equipment ranges in capacity from 550 to 3,000 kW, with a total value of €1.85 million.

Energy emergency in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that an energy emergency has been declared due to strikes on energy infrastructure.

The Foreign Minister stated that Ukraine will convene an energy Ramstein meeting in response to the electricity crisis caused by Russian attacks and severe cold weather.
