On Tuesday, December 9, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on seven Russian individuals and entities. The list included Aleksandr Dugin, the ideologist of the "Russian world," according to the UK sanctions list.

The sanctions target Dugin and the Center for Geopolitical Expertise, which he founded. They also cover propaganda outlets Euromore, Golos, the Telegram channel Rybar, and its founder, Mikhail Zvinchuk.

Additionally, the Russian Foundation for the Support and Protection of the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad was sanctioned. For all individuals and entities on the list, the measures include freezing all assets in the UK and a travel ban.

What is known about Dugin

Propagandist Aleksandr Dugin is considered one of the key ideologists of the "Russian world." For over ten years, in numerous speeches, publications, and articles, he has denied the existence of Ukraine as a sovereign state and called for its armed seizure by Russian forces.

At the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Dugin was among the first to publicly support the armed forces of Russia and justify Russian war crimes against Ukraine.

Dugin openly promoted ideas of mass physical destruction of Ukrainians, as well as attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.

In August 2022, a car in the Moscow region carrying Darya Dugina, Aleksandr Dugin's daughter, who fully shared her father's worldview, was blown up.

Russian media circulated claims that Ukraine was involved in the explosion, but the Office of the President denied such statements. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stated that Ukraine had no involvement in the killing of the Russian propagandist.

According to Russian media, Dugin's influence on Russian leader Vladimir Putin increased after the death of his daughter.
