The United Kingdom remains ready to deploy troops to Ukraine once any active hostilities in the country have ended, stated the spokesperson for UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to The Guardian.

When asked whether the UK still intends to deploy troops on the ground, Starmer’s official spokesperson said: "If you're asking me directly, is the UK still willing to put boots on the ground in the event of hostilities ceasing, the answer is yes. That's our existing position."

The outlet also noted that during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Prime Minister expressed condolences to the Ukrainian people over the large-scale Russian attacks and praised Ukrainians' courage and resilience in the face of daily aggression.

While discussing the Geneva talks and next diplomatic steps, the leaders stressed the importance of securing a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine.

They also discussed the work of the Coalition of the Willing and highlighted the need to prepare international partners for the possible deployment of multinational forces once hostilities end.

Planning for such measures is ongoing, particularly following the joint commitments made by the UK and France this summer.

The Prime Minister and the President agreed to maintain regular contact in the near future.

Foreign troops in Ukraine

Earlier, the Coalition of the Willing announced its readiness to deploy deterrence forces to Ukraine.

After a meeting at the White House, around ten countries agreed to send their troops to Ukraine and dispatch military planners to the United States for consultations.

Germany has not ruled out the possibility of deploying its contingent to Ukraine, and Belgium has declared readiness to send troops as part of a peacekeeping mission after the war with Russia ends.

Today, it was also reported that allied nations are prepared to deploy support forces to Ukraine immediately after Kyiv and Moscow sign a peace agreement.

According to French President Emmanuel Macron, once a peace agreement is signed, support forces could be deployed away from the front line - for example, in Kyiv or Odesa.
