UK's security agreement to be benchmark for other countries, Ukraine's PM
The agreement on Ukraine's security guarantees with the UK will become a benchmark for other countries, said the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
"Why this agreement is important. It has become a benchmark (for agreements with other countries - ed.). This standard must include maximum guarantees for our country. And so it is... Britain will support Ukraine during the aggression as long as it is needed," Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that this agreement is the first, but not the last.
"Today we are negotiating with our partners to sign similar agreements," he added.
Signing of the agreement on security guarantees with the UK
As a reminder, on Friday, January 12, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in Kyiv on a working visit. During the visit, he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The leaders signed a historic agreement between the UK and Ukraine on security cooperation. It entered into force on January 12, 2024, and will be in effect for 10 years. If Ukraine joins NATO during this period, the parties will make a separate decision on the future status of the guarantees.
