Rishi Sunak to sign 'historic agreement' with Zelenskyy
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in Kyiv on January 12 to sign a "historic agreement" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The UK will be the first G7 country to take such a step, according to Rishi Sunak on X.
"Today the Prime Minister and President Zelenskyy will sign a historic UK-Ukraine Security Agreement, making clear that we will always support the defense of Ukraine and its people. The UK is the first G7 country to do this," the statement says.
Aid package for Ukraine
The UK has also announced the largest package of defense support for Ukraine since the beginning of the war, worth £2.5 billion.
"This includes the production of thousands of military drones, allowing the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to continue to protect Ukrainians and repel Russian invaders," the Prime Minister's press service says.
In addition, London will additionally finance "fortify Ukraine’s energy infrastructure against further Russian attacks" and will allocate an additional 18 million pounds to deliver humanitarian aid to the front line in Ukraine.
"Since the beginning of this conflict, the British people have stood with Ukraine," the statement reads.
Funding for English language education in Ukraine
In turn, Ukraine will promote the English language in the country to boost economic growth and diplomatic ties.
"The UK will help in this effort, providing additional funding and resources for English language training," the press service says.
Sunak in Kyiv
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in Kyiv on January 12. He was expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and announce a new military aid package and more.
As a reminder, on January 2, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. One of the topics discussed was strengthening Ukraine's air defense.
