The war could end right now if Russian President Vladimir Putin withdrew his troops from Ukraine. At the same time, only Ukrainians can determine their own future, stated a representative of the British Prime Minister's office, The Guardian reports.
Commenting on rumors about a US peace plan, the official emphasized that Britain shares US President Donald Trump's desire to end Russia's war against Ukraine.
At the same time, the Prime Minister's office representative stressed that Putin is not ending the war and continues to launch missiles and drones at Ukraine, killing innocent Ukrainians, including children and the elderly.
"We welcome all efforts that seek to secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine. We have been repeatedly clear that only the Ukrainian people can determine their future," he emphasized.
The official also added that London will continue to support Ukraine and help provide the military equipment and resources needed to defend against ongoing aggression. Pressure on Russia will also continue in order to reduce the revenue that funds the war.
US peace plan
Western media previously reported rumors about a US peace plan developed with Russian participation.
This plan sets out conditions that are impossible for Ukraine to meet — handing over Donbas to Russian control, significantly reducing the size of the Ukrainian army, and banning the use of certain types of weapons.
A US delegation has already arrived in Kyiv. According to rumors, it is expected to present this initiative.
RBC-Ukraine sources reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already met with the US delegation, which was led by US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll.
