UK promises new sanctions on Russia 'very shortly'

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that additional sanctions against Russia will be announced "very shortly," Sky News reports.
The UK Foreign Secretary indirectly responded to a question about whether the sanctions would target specific individuals profiting from Russian oil.
Lammy noted that the UK government had already done a lot, in particular lowering the oil price cap, which in his view was necessary.
The minister also stated that Britain had participated in the "largest package of sanctions anywhere in the world against Putin's war machine."
"I can't comment on further sanctions from the despatch box but she will see an announcement very shortly," the Foreign Secretary concluded.
Sanctions against Russia: What other measures are being prepared
The European Union is preparing its 19th package of sanctions against Russia since the beginning of the full-scale war against Ukraine.
The new restrictions, expected in September, are aimed at the shadow fleet and companies that help Moscow circumvent the sanctions.
The most painful for Russia could be secondary sanctions – against companies or countries that do business with Russia.
It is also important to mention sanctions from the United States. According to the latest statement by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Washington will consider new restrictions against Russia in light of Ukraine's massive attacks.
