The United Kingdom has clarified its plans regarding the deployment of military units in Ukraine as it prepares for a possible end to the war and potential involvement in a peace settlement, according to a publication by Bloomberg.

Following summer intelligence missions and readiness assessments, the United Kingdom has identified which units and formations it would deploy to Ukraine, as well as the locations where their headquarters would be stationed.

These measures fall within a 30-nation coalition led by the UK and France, aimed at supporting Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.

The defence secretary stressed that the plans would be coordinated with allies and adjusted to the conditions of any future peace settlement.

Preparing for troop deployment

The UK intends to allocate resources for the rapid deployment of its units in Ukraine, including the possibility of training Ukrainian forces inside the country itself.

Coordination of multinational forces would be conducted through a group led by a two-star British officer.

The plans also include expanding the Black Sea operational group comprising Türkiye, Romania and Bulgaria, to secure maritime routes and support port demining.

Supporting peace process

In parallel, a US military delegation is holding talks in Kyiv as part of a renewed attempt to revive peace negotiations with Russia.

The UK has signalled readiness to support these efforts by allocating more than £100 million for initial costs related to the deployment of forces if a ceasefire agreement is signed.

Planned deployments would be positioned far from the frontline to safely support the process of restoring Ukraine’s military capabilities and infrastructure.

The UK is providing Ukraine with more than $17 million for energy-system repairs while also imposing a ban on maritime imports of Russian LNG, increasing economic pressure on Moscow.

The UK is also urgently deploying specialists and defence equipment to Belgium following a series of drone incidents that disrupted airports and military facilities.
