UK intelligence shows satellite images of strike on Russian airbase aftermath
A Ukrainian strike on the Marinovka airbase in Russia's Volgograd region on August 22, 2024, caused widespread damage to key infrastructure and equipment, according to the UK Ministry of Defense.
According to UK intelligence, the strike resulted in four destroyed aircraft shelters, three damaged aircraft shelters, a destroyed antenna fairing, destroyed ancillary buildings, and destroyed open storage facilities.
Strikes on Russian air bases
On the night of August 22, drones attacked the Marinovka military airfield in the Volgograd region of Russia. NASA satellites recorded three fires on the territory of the airbase.

According to open sources, the airbase is home to Su-24MR frontline reconnaissance aircraft of the 2nd Separate Reconnaissance Aviation Squadron (military unit 77978) of the 4th Air Force and Air Defence Command, which was formed on 1 January 2014 from the 697th Aviation Squadron to form the 7th. Su-34 fighters could also be based there.
On August 16, Ukrainian kamikaze drones attacked the Russian airfield Savasleyka in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia. According to military intelligence sources, the attack destroyed a MiG-31K/I aircraft, and two Il-76 aircraft, and damaged about five aircraft, probably MiG-31K/I.
