UK Intelligence assesses damages from strikes on Crimean airfields
Recent strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on airfields in occupied Crimea have caused significant damage to military infrastructure. In response, Russia launched a series of missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine, according to the UK Ministry of Defense.
The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) says that on January 4, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked Russian facilities at airfields in the cities of Saky and Sevastopol.
"These attacks highly likely degraded the awareness and coverage of Russian air defenses over the Crimean region," the report says.
In response, on January 8, Russia launched a series of missile strikes on Ukrainian territory, targeting several cities, including Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhzhia.
"This once again demonstrates the ineffectiveness of Russian air defenses in protecting key locations, despite their enhanced preparedness. The scale of the Russian response is likely indicative of the level of success achieved by the Ukrainian Armed Forces' actions of 4 January 2024," the UK Ministry of Defense says.
Strikes on Crimea
According to the DIU, in the temporarily occupied Crimea, as a result of strikes on January 4, ammunition depots were destroyed and a radar station was damaged.
In addition, the Strategic Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine states that a Russian troop assembly point was hit near occupied Sevastopol. The commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk, says that the operation was carried out with the help of Ukrainian pilots.
