The UK held talks with around 20 countries on a "coalition of the willing" to help ensure peace in Ukraine. The discussions are still in the early stages, Sky News reports.

A government official told the outlet that British officials held talks on March 5 with representatives from about 20 countries interested in forming the coalition.

The initiative is led by the UK and France, and under this plan, troops from participating nations could be deployed to Ukraine as peacekeeping forces.

The Sky News source did not specify which other countries have expressed interest but added, "It shows the willingness of the coalition of the willing to convene and the desire of a number of different countries to play their part."

"This is still early stages and the situation is very fluid," the source said regarding the coalition talks.

“Coalition of the willing”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the creation of a “coalition of the willing” to ensure peace in Ukraine. The main goal of the coalition is to gather countries that are ready to send troops to Ukraine.

The UK and France have already agreed to send their troops to the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. Negotiations with other partner countries are ongoing. According to media reports, Türkiye has also agreed to discuss the possibility of sending troops.

In addition, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine and Europe will soon prepare a plan for sustainable peace.
